This centre has been endorsed by Ipnet as a Porphyria Expert Clinical Centre (PECC).
The activities of The Israeli National Service for the Biochemical Diagnoses of Porphyrias includes diagnosis of all types of porphyria from all over the country and serves all the hospitals and health insurance companies in Israel and the IDF.
The center performs lab tests for urinary ALA and PBG, Porphyrin levels in urine, stool plasma and erythrocytes, as well as enzymatic tests. All of which enable the diagnosis of all types of porphyria –the acute ones (ADP,AIP, VP, HCP)- in acute and silent phases, and the chronic ones(EPP, PCT, CEP). In addition, a porphyria clinic is attached to the lab, and diagnosed patients are being followed up. They and their physicians can get advised by a porphyria specialist clinician as well.
Being located in a big medical center, enables the lab and the clinic to be in touch with experts from other disciplines (Dermatologists, pediatricians, psychiatrists, geneticists and others) if needed.
