Department of Disorders of Hemostasis and Internal Medicine together with the Laboratory of Porphyria of Department of Hemostasis and Metabolic Diseases offers full diagnostics of porphyria, treats patients with porphyria and provides a comprehensive clinical and analytical advisory service.
The Laboratory of Porphyria provides highly specialized medical services in the field of diagnosis and differentiation of all types of porphyria during the symptomatic period of the disease. The Laboratory performs quantitative determinations of precursors, porphyrins and their isomers in urine, faeces, plasma and whole blood using ion exchange chromatography, fluorimetry and HPLC.
The Laboratory also diagnoses members of family with porphyria to detect asymptomatic carriers of the defective gene and maintains a national database of patients and their family members.
The Laboratory of Porphyria participates in the International Porphyria Network Network External Qality Assessment Scheme (Ipnet EQAS).
